Disney and Pixar decided to celebrate the theatrical release of Up today by distributing the first early teaser trailer for next year’s Toy Story 3.
When I say “teaser” that is meant to be interpreted quite literally. The short trailer is custom made to show the logo and nothing more. To Pixar’s credit and legacy, the unveiling of the logo is nothing short of brilliance in that it reminds us of the Toy Story crew’s camaraderie, Buzz and Woody’s rivalry, and how fun these movies are.
The basic premise of Toy Story 3 is Andy has left home to attend college. Rather than his toys collecting dust under the bed as in Toy Story 2, they have been dropped off at a local daycare where hilarity is bound to ensue.
Returning to voice Buzz, Woody and Jessie are Tim Allen, Tom Hanks and Joan Cusack, respectively. New characters are bound to be introduced but those are being kept under tight wraps.
Toy Story 3 is under the direction of Pixar veteran Lee Unkrich and will be released in digital 3D on June 18, 2010. I’d bet good money on Toy Story 1 and 2 becoming available on Blu-ray Disc in either May or June.
