Warner’s I Am Legend starring Will Smith raked in a colossal $584 million worldwide gross, numbers more than adequate to consider a sequel. The catch? Will’s character Robert Neville may or may not have survived depending on which ending you take as gospel.
A plan has been set in motion to return to the world of I Am Legend and bring back Will Smith in the only plausible capacity needing no explanation: a prequel.
The film is expected to explore the final days of humanity in New York City as touched upon briefly in flashbacks during I Am Legend. Whether characters introduced in those flashbacks, including Neville’s wife and daughter, will return is not known at this time.
Francis Lawrence will return behind the lens to direct a script soon to be drafted by D.B. Weiss.
