The first official image from James Mangold’s The Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee and Tao Okamoto showed up as an early morning surprise on Twitter via Marvel’s Agent M. We have seen Hugh as the iconic X-Men character multiple times before, but not looking as slim and trim as you will see below.
Hugh has clearly undergone some radical body fat and water loss techniques to achieve this physique for The Wolverine. In this image, which is likely enhanced a bit by Photoshop, he looks like he has been on a diet or professional body sculptor regimen compared to the other X-Men films that showcase a beefier version of the character.
Maybe Wolverine becomes a vegetarian while he’s in Japan where much – if not all – of the film will take place. It is in Japan that he will train to become a samurai with those claws and likely battle some other mutants.
The Wolverine is still in production and will make its theatrical debut on July 26, 2013. Click the Hugh Jackman image below for a high-res look.
