Heroes Reborn is the next volume in the superhero saga as revealed with a teaser promo during the Olympics coverage on NBC Saturday night.
NBC has ordered up 13 all-new episodes of Heroes that will serve as a miniseries event. The new episodes are considered to revolve around a standalone story arc with a new group of heroes driving the story.
Series creator Tim Kring is once again steering Heroes in its next incarnation. No other talent from the original four seasons, or “volumes” as they were presented, though NBC hasn’t ruled out the potential for characters like Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere), Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia), Matt Parkman (Gren Grunberg) and fan favorite Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) “popping back in” per NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke.
Heroes began its inaugural season with the catchphrase “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World that became a pop culture phenomenon. After the first season, the series began to decline creatively and in the ratings. By the fourth season, time travel had gotten out of hand, the villain Sylar from the first season was now a hero, and audiences were leaving in droves.
Volume 4 of Heroes closed with Claire Bennet showing her regenerative powers to the world by surviving a fall that should have killed her while a film crew televised the act live. It opened the door to steer Heroes in a new direction that never materialized.
NBC and Tim Kring will be released a new digital series prior to 2015 that will either introduce the new characters, reintroduce former ones, or a mix of both.
