HBO’s ‘Band of Brothers’ on Blu-ray in 2008

The latest issue of Home Media Magazine has confirmed a Blu-ray Disc version of Band of Brothers is not only in the works, but due in stores before this year is out.

The confirmation comes from Sofia Chang, the SVP of Marketing for HBO home video. Chang let the news slip while discussing the success Band of Brothers has had on DVD, which currently sits in the #6 spot of the DVD top-sellers of all time list.

Band of Brothers appearance on Blu-ray (and previously, HD DVD) has been bandied about in the media since the format’s launch in 2006. Amazon.com included Band of Brothers on both high-def formats in their first batch of pre-order listings. As the months wore on and no official announcement came from HBO, it became clear Band of Brothers in high-def was further out rather than just around the corner.

Release schedules can change between now and year’s end, but with Blu-ray winning the high-def home video software format war, the market is ripe for this set.

Keep your eyes open for the (hopefully) official announcement with dates and specs from HBO in the coming months.
