HBO has formally renewed Girls for a third season following a slip of the new by creator and star Lena Dunham a day prior.
Girls took the Golden Globes by storm and snagged two awards; Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical for Dunham. Combined with early incomplete data suggesting 3.8 million viewers for the second season premiere and renewing Girls for another season was a no-brainer.
Girls stars Dunham along with Jemima Kirke and Allison Williams in a story about women in their early 20s coping with their professional and social lives in New York City. Two of twelve episodes in Season 2 have already aired with the next episode, ‘Bad Friend,’ premiering tonight on HBO.
