HBO has not been shy about teasing the Game of Thrones: Season 2 premiere inching ever so closer this upcoming Sunday. The latest evidence of such teasing is delivered in a fantastic featurette that travels to the diverse Westeros lands those in search of sitting upon the Iron Throne will venture to.
The Season 2 Game of Thrones destinations outnumber those from the first season, as dictated by the A Song of Ice and Fire series source material written by George R. R. Martin. The setup for several of these new lands was put in place in the Season 1 finale as Jon Snow (Kit Harington) traveled north of the wall, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) became her own ruler, and whispers of Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) coming for his deceased brother’s throne emerged.
Many of these locations and some of the footage introduced alongside them could be considered of the spoiler variety for those who haven’t read the A Song of Ice and Fire books. Please proceed at your own risk.
Executive producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, along with producer Frank Doelger, production designer Gemma Jackson and members of the cast including Peter Dinklage, introduce the new lands and locations Season 2 will journey two. They are Craster’s Keep north of the wall, the dragon-damaged castle Harrenhal, Stannis’ fortress Dragonstone, the island of Pyke, the oasis city of Qarth, and the cold mountains of Iceland substituting for anything north of the wall.
Game of Thrones: Season 2 starring Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Maisie Williams, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Jack Gleeson and many others begins its 10-episode run this Sunday at 9pm on HBO. A special interactive presentation of the Game of Thrones: Season 2 premiere will be available exclusive on iPads via HBO Go.
