‘Hairspray’ Blu-ray Features DTS-HD Audio, High-Def Extras

New Line broke their silence regarding high definition support a couple weeks ago and formally announced ‘Hairspray’ would be the first title to appear on Blu-ray Disc in November, followed by an HD DVD version early next year. At the time, all we had to go off for technical specs was a press release which lumped the high definition disc specs with the standard DVD disc specs. Suspicious that whoever wrote the press release wasn’t familiar with high definition home video, we inquired to New Line and their PR firm for clarification. Those inquiries went unanswered.

Now we’ve gotten a hold of the back cover art for ‘Hairspray’ on Blu-ray Disc and what do you know: 7.1 DTS-HD Master Lossless Audio! The cover also confirms the extra features will be presented in either 1080i or 1080p. There’s now renewed hope ‘Rush Hour 3’ may receive a similar treatment in December unless the cover is incorrect. We tend to believe the cover over the press release at this point.

You can view the back cover, along with the front, through the disc specs below.
