Golden Globes 2013 Predictions and Online Live Stream

Golden Globes 2013 Predictions and Online Live StreamTonight’s 2013 70th Annual Golden Globes award winners will be considered the frontrunners to take home an Oscar at the Academy Awards. More specifically, all eyes will be on the Best Drama Film category where there doesn’t seem to be an outright favorite to win.

Vying for the Best Drama Film Golden Globe award tonight are Ben Affleck’s Argo, Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Likewise, each of those directors also comprise the Best Director field, and more often than not whichever director wins the award signals which film will take home the top prize.

Of the five films up for the Best Drama award, only one of them is represented in the Best Actor in a Drama category: Daniel Day-Lewis for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln. This may give him a leg up over the competition which includes Richard Gere, John Hawkes, Joaquin Phoenix and Denzel Washington.

Likewise, only Jessica Chastain from Zero Dark Thirty represents the Best Drama films in the Best Actress in a Drama category. She is the favorite to win over Marion Cotillard, Naomi Watts, Helen Mirren and Rachel Weisz.

On the television side, Homeland is the favorite to win Best Drama, though don’t be surprised if Breaking BadBreaking Bad or Downton Abbey pull off an upset. It would not be surprising in the least if Homeland swept the Best Drama, Best Actor in a Drama and Best Actress in a Drama categories.

Predicting tonight’s winners is tough, but I’m going to go with Lincoln for Best Drama, Ben Affleck for Best Director, Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor in a Drama, Jessica Chastain for Best Actress in a Drama, Bradley Cooper for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, Jennifer Lawrence for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, Philip Seymour Hoffman for Best Supporting Actor, Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress, Django Unchained for Best Screenplay (to mix things up), Life of Pi for Best Score, and Brave for Best Animated Feature.

On the television side I’ll predict the Best Drama sweep for Homeland that includes Claires Danes and Damian Lewis, The Big Bang Theory winning Best Musical or Comedy, Jim Parsons for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, Hatfields & McCoys for Best Miniseries, Jessica Lange for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, Benedict Cumberbatch for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie, Maggie Smith for Best Supporting Actress and Mandy Patinkin for Best Supporting Actor.

Those of you without a television for tonight’s 70th Annual Golden Globes on NBC can watch it free over the air or via your local cable or satellite subscription. There’s an unofficial free online live streaming option here that may or may not be working, though to my knowledge NBC is not directly offering a quick and free official live stream of tonight’s main show. The Golden Globes get underway at 8pm EST / 5pm PST after all the red carpet showboating wraps up.
