Ghost Recon on Xbox 360: more than downtown Mexico City

Timing can be a funny thing. After publishing a quick editorial today featuring the next wave of Xbox 360 games, new screenshots for several games mentioned in the piece have come pouring in. One thing I didn’t mention when complaining about the lack of new games was the drought extended beyond games and into media, so today’s avalanche of screenshots provide temporary relief.

Ubisoft has lulled us into falsely believing Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter’s gameplay unfolds completely within the urban confines of Mexico City. They’ve never mentioned alternate settings nor released any media to suggest it. When today’s screenshots were released to time with an article in the current edition of OXM, my first reaction was are these Far Cry Instincts Predator screens? Maybe I need a geography lesson to figure out how far Mexico City is from the beach because the desert, dry docks and ocean coves with palm trees are the furthest thing from what we’ve seen thus far. Or maybe I need to not care and be thankful the game is bigger than we initially thought.
