Amazon.com has added a listing for a new collector’s edition of Lonesome Dove on Blu-ray Disc with a release date of August 19. What’ makes it interesting is Lonesome Dove is distributed by Genius Products, a previously HD DVD exclusive studio who has yet to make a peep regarding Blu-ray support since abandoning that now-defunct format earlier this year.
According to the listing, this new collector’s edition of Lonesome Dove will feature 5.1 audio and a re-mastered widescreen picture.
Supplemental features have been packed onto two discs and include The Making of An Epic: a never before-seen 50 minute featurette; a new interview with Director Simon Wincer; a Lonesome Dove Montage featuring an original score by Basil Poledouris; the original interviews on the set with author Larry McMurtry and the whole cast; and a photo gallery of Lonesome Dove original sketches, casting notes, and other materials.
If this pans out to be true, and we’re inclined to believe it is given the pre-order option at Amazon that includes a $39.82 list price, then look for an official announcement from Genius in the days ahead.
