When HBO debut the first trailer including footage for Season 4 of Game of Thrones, throngs of the shows fans were immediately reminded at the previous season, known for the infamous Red Wedding, was coming soon to Blu-ray and DVD. That trailer had a profound impact on pre-order sales for the home video debut of Season 3 at Amazon.com.
Prior to the Game of Thrones Season 4 trailer premiere, the Season 3 Blu-ray and DVD combo box set was not in Amazon’s top 10 bestsellers chart. It was hovering in the teens while other titles, like Disney’s Frozen, were running away with the most pre-orders.
When the trailer hit 11 days ago, Game of Thrones Season 3 on Blu-ray and DVD shot right up the charts and into the top position within 24 hours. And why not considering Amazon has the box set priced at $39.96 or half off the nearly $80 list price.
Today, nearly two weeks later, Game of Thrones Season 3 still commands the second position on Amazon’s Blu-ray bestsellers chart behind only Frozen. It will likely secure the number one position again closer to its February 18 release date.
