If names are any indication, and in most cases they are, tonight’s episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones will perhaps shed a little more light on ‘The Old Gods and the New.’ The title refers to the gods worshiped by those in the south, the “New Gods,” and the gods the northerners look toward for inspiration and guidance, the “Old Gods.” How these beliefs play into ‘The Old Gods and the New’ remains to be seen, but we’ll find out soon enough.
In tonight’s new Game of Thrones episode, Theon will complete what HBO is referring to as his “master stroke.” We take this to infer that Theon has recognized Bran’s orders to send troops away from Winterfell and will commence his attack on the Stark stronghold. Bran foresaw this attack in his dream about the city becoming flooded by a massive tidal wave. I haven’t read the A Song of Ice and Fire books, but it sure seems like a confrontation between Robb and Theon is inevitable.
Back in King’s Landing, Tyrion’s own master stroke to send Cersei’s daughter, Myrcella, away will come to fruition. Aside from bringing Shae to King’s Landing against his father’s wishes, Tyrion has yet to make a political mistake since becoming the Hand of the King.
In Harrenhal, Arya will come into contact with a “surprise visitor” as she digests the ramifications of having the power to say the word and send two men or women to their grave.
Lady Stark should be reunited with her son Robb, and will arrive in Rob’s camp with a new knight by her side. Robb doesn’t look too thrilled in the new Game of Thrones preview image below.
