Thomas Kretschmann appeared in the October 8 episode of Fox’s Fringe as a soldier from an alternate universe written to evolve into a recurring villain for the show. That will be the actor’s last appearance.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the role will be assumed by Sebastian Roche due to scheduling conflicts on Kretschmann’s calendar. The character’s name is currently under wraps and his motive is assumed to be gathering vital information to open and sustain a stable door between parallel universes.
Roche recently completed work on Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson’s The Adventures of Tin Tin: The Secret of the Unicorn. He is expected to begin shooting Fringe scenes soon that will air later in the second season.
