UPDATE: Extra features and full disc specs have been added for all the November 14 releases as well as ‘Ice Age: The Meltdown.’ Can you say DTS-HD lossless audio on ALL Fox Blu-ray Discs? Click through the disc details below for full details.
Fox is set to formally announce its Blu-ray debut today but thanks to the wonderful Internet, the cat is already out of the bag. This marks the last studio whom has pledged support to Blu-ray to come forth with release dates and pricing.
The big “gun” Fox brings to the party will be ‘Ice Age: The Meltdown,’ day-and-date with the standard DVD version on November 21 and not ironically a few days after Playstation 3 is released. In fact, it’s obviously clear Fox has patterned their Blu-ray debut around Sony’s upcoming Blu-ray enabled gaming console.
The bulk of Fox’s debut will arrive in stores a week earlier on November 14 – three days before PS3’s release – and include ‘Kingdom of Heaven,’ the industry’s first dual-layered BD-50 disc;’ ‘Behind Enemy Lines;’ ‘The Fantastic Four;’ ‘Kiss of the Dragon;’ ‘The Omen (666);’ ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentleman;’ ‘Speed’ and ‘The Transporter.’ Additional waves will include new licensor MGM titles starting with ‘The Usual Suspects’ and ‘Windtalkers’ on November 28, followed with ‘Rocky’ and ‘Bulletproof Monk’ on December 5.
All Fox titles are expected to carry an SRP of $39.98, at least $10 more than Sony, Lionsgate and Warner Brothers are charging. With the extra dollars comes the satisfaction of knowing Fox is utilizing AVC (MPEG-4 compression) on ‘Speed,’ ‘Behind Enemy Lines’ and ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,’ in addition to true lossless audio and Java-based interactivity.
With this news, Fox has proven good things will come to those to wait and to those with deep pockets. Start saving those pennies.
Be sure to check back often as we’ve already begun working on procuring cover art and full disc specs for each of these titles.
