Former Whedon Doll Boards Syfy’s Being Human

Joss Whedon must be delighted to learn that Australian actress Dichen Lachman, one of the female stars of his canceled Fox sci-fi series Dollhouse, has scored a new gig in which she’s anything but human.

The girl you knew as sexy Doll operative Sierra on Dollhouse will play Izumi in the second season of Syfy’s Being Human, a reboot of the ongoing popular British series of the same name. Her character is described as an ancient reclusive vampire who returns to Boston and immediately causes issues for Aidan (Sam Witwer) and the vampire community as a whole. Reading between the lines, it looks like she’ll be one of the second season’s main villains and come have some romantic entanglements with Aidan.

Being Human debuted in January and quickly became Syfy’s most-watched winter show. The second season is scheduled to begin production in Montreal, Canada shortly with an unconfirmed – but likely – premiere episode in January 2012.

Since Dollhouse came up, I’m still anxiously awaiting for Fran Kranz to latch onto a regular role in a series. His portrayal of bumbling geek Topher was a scene-stealer.

You can currently catch Kranz in Fox’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules on Blu-ray or DVD, and later this year in the horror-thriller The Cabin in the Woods, which happens to be co-written by none other than Joss Whedon.
