First Look: Meet the New Red Dawn Wolverines

Four more Wolverines are set to join MGM/UA’s remake of the 1984 Soviet invasion thriller Red Dawn (scroll below for pics).

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Edwin Hodge will join previously announced Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki in forming a youthful resistance dubbed the Wolverines against foreign invaders. Though the original featured strictly Russian opponents, the remake will add Chinese soldiers to the mix.

The only Wolverine not mentioned in any casting announcements is Arturo “Aardvark” Mondracon played by actor Doug Toby. You can see him below in the second picture, first row on the left. His role was relatively minor compared to the other Wolverines which means either his character did not make it into the new script or the role has yet to be cast.

Director Dan Bradley is expected to whisk the new Wolverines off for military training at an undisclosed location in the coming weeks. Principal photography will commence next month in Detroit with a September 24, 2010 release date.

Now that we have the potential complete roster of Wolverines I felt inspired to put together a little pictorial comparing the new warriors with the old. Aside from two race swaps from white to black which should not make a difference, the new cast is a near spitting image of their predecessors.

First row: Chris Hemsworth and Patrick Swayze as leader Jed Eckert; Adrianne Palicki and Jennifer Grey as tough girl Toni; Josh Peck and Charlie Sheen as Jed’s younger brother Matt.

Second row: Isabel Lucas and Lea Thompson as Matt’s girlfriend Erica; Josh Hutcherson and C. Thomas Howell as Robert the tech geek; Connor Cruise and Darren Dalton as Spokane’s Mayor’s son Daryl.

Last row: Edwin Hodge and Brad Savage as football star Danny.
