TNT’s new alien apocalypse show Falling Skies rose to the occasion in posting strong ratings numbers after its two-hour premiere.
Per Nielsen, the Steven Spielberg executive produced Falling Skies starring Noah Wyle attracted 5.91 million viewers for the cable network. It performed well in the 18-49 demographic with 2.64 million and also in the 25-54 demographic with 3.24 million.
The big ratings numbers made Falling Skies the most watched cable premiere this year. If you have to travel back to summer 2010 to find a cable premiere that performed stronger in the form of another TNT show, Rizzoli & Isles. That drama brought in 7.6 million viewers.
More impressive is that Falling Skies managed to top the 5.3 million viewers that AMC’s The Walking Dead posted last fall. The trick now for Falling Skies now is to avoid a steady decline like many scripted serials suffer as their inaugural season wears on.
The next episode of Falling Skies will air this upcoming Sunday evening at 10pm EST/PST on TNT.
