Extended Agents of SHIELD Trailer References The Avengers and Reveals Level 7ABC and Joss Whedon debuted a nearly three-minute promo trailer for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the networks upfronts presentation earlier today.

Co-written and directed by Whedon, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. plays off of The Avengers in that the world now knows that people from another time period, with powers, or from another planet do exist. There are those with powers out in the world that may or may not intend to use them for good. It is up to S.H.I.E.L.D. to track those people down and manage the threat.

In particular, the S.H.I.E.L.D. team led by Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) is tasked with investigating the cases that S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t classified. We get to see the moment Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) gets his S.H.I.E.L.D. security clearance upped from Level 6 to Level 7, which in turn lets him in on the secret that Coulson did not die during the attack on New York City by Loki and the Chitauri aliens.

Whedon shows are known for their strong female characters and S.H.I.E.L.D. is no exception. Ming-Na Wen struts her fighting skills as Agent Melinda May, and Chloe Bennet poses a threat to S.H.I.E.L.D. as the mysterious Skye.

The overall message of S.H.I.E.L.D. seems to be two-fold; you don’t have to be super to be a hero, and individuals are on the loose that want to use super powers for their own nefarious reasons.

A mysterious character played by J. August Richards who may or may not be Luke Cage or Rage from Marvel Comics is the first such super powered human seen on the show. My expectation is that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will introduce many of the lesser known Marvel superheroes from the comics throughout the show.

Agent Coulson fans will be happy to hear that the amazing high end Hoy Toys 1:6 scale Agent Coulson action figure modeled after the character’s appearance in The Avengers should be arriving in North America in the next 4-6 weeks. I suspect his figure will be selling out here soon now that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is green-lit and the pilot is being well received.

Click here to pre-order the Hot Toys Agent Coulson 1:6 scale figure at Sideshow Collectibles, while he lasts (Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, and Iron Man Mark VII have all sold out already).
