EA 2014 E3 Trailers: Star Wars Battlefront, Mirror’s Edge and Battlefield Hardline

EA 2014 E3 Trailers: Star Wars Battlefront, Mirror's Edge and Battlefield HardlineEA opened their 2014 E3 press conference by giving fans what they have been clamoring most, an update on the production of DICE studio’s Star Wars Battlefront. By the end of the behind-the-scenes tour, it became clear that DICE is throwing everything they have at this game and are trying to make the Star Wars game to ever grace a console or PC.

Here’s what we know so far about Star Wars Battlefront based on the trailer and comments dropped. The game will visit multiple worlds including the ice fields of Hoth and the forests of Endor. Members of DICE visited the Lucasfilm archives to photograph the actual film props in order to ensure the utmost accuracy within the game. They also visited the real-world locations where the Battle of Hoth and Battle of Endor were filmed over 30 years ago.

EA also confirms that you will be able to rise through the ranks in Star Wars Battlefront as either a member of the Rebellion or Empire. Snowspeeder flight will play an important role in the Hoth level, and piloting a speeder bike through the forests of Endor looks fantastic at an early prototype stage.

Next up from DICE is an update on Mirror’s Edge, a prequel to the original game that sees Faith discover her destiny as an amazing runner. Like Star Wars Battlefront there’s no gameplay footage to share right now. In fact, all of what was shown for Mirror’s Edge was labeled as a “conceptual prototype.” Star Wars appears to be further along with “in-engine” footage being shown.

If DICE can get Mirror’s Edge looking like their concept videos then we’re all in for a treat.

Switching gears to Visceral Games brings us to Battlefield Hardline, the next chapter in the Battlefield franchise that pits law enforcement against hardened and well-armed criminals. EA has shared six minutes of multiplayer gameplay footage and opened up the multiplayer closed beta starting today for PS4 and PC players (register here). Sorry, Xbox One owners. You’ve been left out.

Battlefield Hardline deploys into stores on October 21 in North America.
