Disney’s ‘Tinkerbell’ Flutters onto Blu-ray in October 2008

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has selected October 28, 2008 as the direct-to-video DVD and Blu-ray Disc debut for Tinkerbell, one year and two days from now. The Peter Pan character’s first starring and speaking role, courtesy of Brittany Murphy, was originally scheduled for release this year until Pixar’s famed creative mastermind John Lasseter voiced his displeasure with the film’s direction which lead to a major creative overhaul.

Tinkerbell will be presented in widescreen 1.78:1 1080p video and, presumably, the studio’s defacto PCM 5.1 uncompressed audio. Extra features available on both the DVD and Blu-ray Disc include a behind-the-scenes making-of featurette, set-top game, Nature pedia, and guide to Pixie Hollow. The guide to Pixie Hollow will be enhanced on Blu-ray Disc via BD Live, though specifics of the enhancement are still unknown.

Tinkerbell on Blu-ray Disc will carry an SRP of $34.99. Given the extremely early release date information, we don’t expect to see final cover art for several months at the very least.
