Disney’s ‘Cars’ Blu-ray Disc Release Date, Cover Art Revealed

A new Hettrick blog entry over at hollywoodinhighdef.com (a studio-endorsed Blu-ray Disc website) has revealed the new release date for ‘Cars’ on Blu-ray Disc, along with a sneak-peek into some of the interactive features that will appear on the disc. All thanks to a chatty Disney executive at the Home Media Expo in Las Vegas.

If the information is correct, and we’ll assume so unless Disney states otherwise, the new ‘Cars’ release date will be November 6. Apparently, director John Lasseter has been overseeing every aspect of transferring the existing ‘Cars’ content from DVD to Blu-ray Disc, as well as the creation of new content. One of the new interactive features powered by BD-J will be called “Car Finder,” that will allow viewers to look for upwards of 200 different models of cars in the film. The ported DVD-features will be displayed on a dashboard that will allow viewers to watch them separate from the film or as branches from specific moments in the film.

‘Cars’ should carry an SRP of $34.99, which puts it a mere $5 more than the award-winning standard DVD. This certainly looks like a must-own disc to us, and if the extras work as great as they sound, it’ll be worth the extra six month wait.
