Disney Extends Blu-ray + DVD Combo Packs Through 2010

Research has led Disney to extend their coupling of Blu-ray Disc and standard DVDs in a single package through the end of next year.

Research conducted on current US DVD player owners who plan to adopt Blu-ray Disc within the next 3-6 months indicated 77% of respondents found the combo packs to be a better value than a DVD or Blu-ray Disc sold separately.

“Since introducing the industry’s first Blu-ray Combo Pack in Fall of 2008, we’ve seen tremendous consumer interest towards the purchase of product that come fully-loaded with extras that fit into their budgets, desires and lifestyles,” commented Bob Chapek, President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. “The Disney Blu-ray Combo Pack is the perfect marriage of value, quality and versatility all wrapped-up in a single package.”

Missing from Disney’s announcement are the thoughts of current Blu-ray adopters whom are growing tired of paying a premium for an extra DVD they have no intention of ever using. The steeper $45.99 SRP might not deter buyers on titles like Pixar’s Up, could affect sales on titles with lesser notoriety like Santa Buddies.
