3-D is all the craze for upcoming animated films these days and even some live-action films. Multiple studios have announced all their future CGI-animated films will be rendered in 3-D.
Disney has been a huge proponent of the move to 3-D, further proven today with news they’ve begun work on re-rendering 1991’s Beauty and the Beast for a 3-D re-release sometime in 2010. The announcement brings the total number of films Disney will release in 3-D that year to a whopping 11.
In a joint announcement by Disney Studios President Mark Zoradi at an event in Singapore, Disney has entered into a five-picture agreement to shoot films for the IMAX format.
The first film to get the IMAX treatment will be Robert Zemeckis’ A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey, due in theaters next year.
The next move for 3-D is into homes where a handful of Blu-ray titles, including Warner’s Journey to the Center of the Earth remake, have come packaged with four pairs of 3-D glasses for optional three-dimensional viewing.
