‘Dexter’ Season 6 Scoops: Casting Call and New (Old) Direction

The first pair of ‘Dexter’ Season 6 scoops have popped up at TV Line over the past few days and offer the first indication of where the season might be headed. A Spoiler Warning applies from this point forward.

Earlier this week a casting call was revealed for three new recurring characters. The first is Jamie, a “fun” Latina who relocates to Miami from somewhere unknown to attend grad school. She’ll be in her mid-20s. A love interest for Dexter or Masuka, perhaps?

Next up is Chicago Mike who is described as an African-American homicide detective with a “finely tuned BS detector.” Dexter is full of BS so these two should really hit it off (not). This guy might end up being Doakes 2.0.

Last is Louis, a buddy of Masuka’s who is recruited to the homicide team as a new lab intern. The character is described as being Caucasian, in his mid-30s, and “attractive in his own way.” If he’s anything like Masuka then the pervert jokes will be flying right and left.

Showtime President David Nevins gave some face time to TV Line at Thursday’s 4th Annual Television Academy Honors in Beverly Hills and talked openly about what’s to come for ‘Dexter.’ He said that the show will “in some ways” return to the style of the early seasons and a storyline that gets back to the character’s roots. He also said the Dexter and Deb dynamic will be under a microscope and will evolve and change throughout the course of the season. Could this be the season that Deb finds out about Dexter’s dark passenger?

Nevins also revealed that Dexter will not be facing off against a singular bad guy ala the Ice Truck Killer or Trinity Killer. He stopped short of saying who Dexter’s enemies would be, but did convey that there’s an interesting story that will be “cast very interestingly, but it’s not exactly that one person.”

Have any theories about where ‘Dexter’ Season 6 is headed? If so, share them in the comments below.

Dexter: Season 6 is scheduled to begin production later this month with the premiere coming in September. Season 5 is coming to Blu-ray and DVD in August and is now available for pre-order.
