Showtime’s Dexter followed in the footsteps of HBO’s True Blood and scored a huge opening with its latest season premiere.
The fifth season premiere of Dexter netted 1.6 million viewers, a 16% uptick from the season four premiere. Blu-ray Disc, DVD and video on demand, combined with star Michael C. Hall’s battle with cancer likely helped increase awareness about the blood splatter analyst who carries a dark passenger.
When combined with a later airing the same evening, the Dexter premiere netted a total of 2.3 million viewers. No other Showtime broadcast this year has reached that mark.
