David Lynch’s Blue Velvet on Blu-ray in November

Considering our neighbors across the pond have already seen several of his films released in high definition, there’s been much speculation about when us Region A’ers would finally see some of David Lynch’s work on Blu-ray on our side of the world. Well, speculate no longer, because on November 8, 2011, Blue Velvet is on its way via MGM Home Entertainment.

Released in 1986 to much critical acclaim, Lynch’s Blue Velvet is billed as a crime thriller, but as with anything Lynch is involved with, can rarely be so easily categorized. It stars Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rosselini, and Dennis Hopper in one of his finest roles committed to film.

As of now, no Blue Velvet Blu-ray special features have been reported, save the fact that it will be a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack per retailer listings.

A few months back, though, David Lynch mentioned via Twitter that he had stumbled upon tons of once though lost footage of the film and had been going through it all for the film’s eventual Blu-ray release. It has been often noted that the film originally was four hours in length before the studio made Lynch cut it down to two. We can only hope that some of, or all, of that extra two hours has been made available either through branching or at the least as deleted scenes.
