Dave Filoni Possibly Working on New Star Wars Animated Series

Dave Filoni Possibly Working on New Star Wars Animated SeriesLucasfilm’s former Star Wars: The Clone Wars showrunner Dave Filoni is potentially attached to the new big Lucasfilm Animation television series.

This past Monday, Lucasfilm announced that they were going to “wind down” the Clone Wars animated series and no longer produce new content to air on the Cartoon Network. Instead, what was already created for Season 6 would be reworked and launched via a to-be-determined delivery medium as “bonus content” that will hopefully tie up some of the loose ends such as the fate of Asaaj Ventress, Captain Rex, Darth Maul and others.

In the same announcement, Lucasfilm stated that a new animated series is in the works and would take place in a time period that has yet to be explored. Additional information about the series would not be available until later this year.

During Disney’s upfront presentation this past Tuesday, Disney Channels Worldwide chief Gary Marsh said they were working closely with Lucasfilm and its chief, Kathleen Kennedy, as well as Dave Filoni to “explore new Star Wars content for our platforms.”

This is the first time Filoni’s name has been mentioned regarding anything outside The Clone Wars so it is fantastic to see that Lucasfilm is keeping him in the fold. I would personally like to see him take the reins or at least oversee the new animated project, and hopefully utilize the same production crew and voice talent including Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein, Tom Kane, James Arnold Taylor, Dee Bradley Baker, Catherine Taber and others.

As for when this new animated series will take place, your guess is as good as mine.
