There’s been some confusion surrounding CBS and Paramount Home Entertainment’s release announcement that CSI is coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 12.
When the first of CSI debuted on DVD way back in 2003, CBS cropped the image and presented it in a full screen 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Later box sets were changed to their correct (varying) widescreen aspect ratios, but that first set has remained a sore spot with consumers for over half a decade now.
I’ve been contacting Paramount since season one was announced for Blu-ray in hopes of eliciting a definitive answer over how it would be presented. I never got one, and now I won’t need to.
The official final cover art was released this morning and, aside from using improved artwork over the DVD set, emblazoned across the top is “Special Widescreen Edition.” That’s about as definitive as you can get.
