Chris Meloni is returning to HBO in grand fashion to take a bite out of a new chapter in his long career.
TV Line has confirmed that Meloni has wrapped up weeks of negotiations with HBO to join True Blood in Season 5 as an ancient vampire. The exact description passed along by HBO for Meloni’s role reads, “an ancient, powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill and Eric in his hands.”
Meloni was a mainstay on HBO as a star of the popular series Oz and more recently appeared on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for a whopping 12 seasons. His return to cable will make girls swoon given the actor was willing to bear all on Oz. As we all know, Alan Ball loves to inject nudity into True Blood wherever he can, especially when it comes to vampires.
With True Blood: Season 4 ending with Bill and Eric learning the Vampire Authority wants them dead, Meloni could be a high ranking member of the Authority tasked with bringing the pair to justice. He also could end up butting heads with Russell Edgington, freshly freed from his concrete prison.
Additional details surrounding Meloni’s role are expected to trickle out over the coming days.
