Call of Duty: Black Ops Registers Sales Over $1 Billion

The stockings at Treyarch and Activision should be stuffed this Christmas based on how fast Call of Duty: Black Ops continues to fly off store shelves.

Activision has issued a press release claiming their internal tracking indicates Call of Duty: Black Ops for Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC has surpassed $1 billion in worldwide sales. This amazing accomplishment comes roughly 5 weeks after the game debuted to $650 million in sales during its first five days of availability.

Usage data released by Activision suggests more than 600 million hours of play have been logged since Call of Duty: Black Ops arrived. Microsoft expands on those numbers by stating the average player turns the game on more than once per day and spends more than half of their time playing online with their buddies.

The Call of Duty franchise will expand next fall with the next entry in the series and likely repeat the record-breaking cycle all over again.
