Buffy Remake in the Works Without Whedon

Another lure tossed into the overcrowded remake pond has caught one of Hollywood’s most coveted species: Vampires! Per The Hollywood Reporter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has started stretching her legs and will make a return to the silver screen.

Though a studio is not yet attached, the word is original Buffy financiers Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with the original film’s director, Fran Rubel Kuzui, to put the “remake” project together.

Not attached in any way, shape or form is Buffy’s original creator, Joss Whedon. He’ll sit this new vision out while the legacy he created in the original film and more extensively through the television series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar is preserved.

You see, the remake is being positioned as a fresh start that will not include Whedon creations like Angel or Willow. Buffy’s new adventures will introduce all new characters with likely winks and nods to Whedon’s closed-book universe.

You cannot walk into a book store these days without facing a massive display of teenage-geared vampire novels. Vamps are in, so blame the screaming Twilight and New Moon fanatics for this potentially horrific development.
