Heath Ledger’s posthumous Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor may have spurred Universal to fast track Brokeback Mountain for a Blu-ray Disc release on March 3 to time with Heath’s likely run at an Oscar.
Universal didn’t have to do much to Brokeback Mountain to get it ready for Blu-ray Disc. It was released in January 2007 on HD DVD and will likely only received a DTS-HD upgrade on Blu-ray over the HD DVD Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 track on HD DVD.
Bonus features are expected to be identical but have not been announced at this time. They will be passed along immediately once available.
Look for Brokeback Mountain on Blu-ray to carry Universal’s catalog retail price of $29.98 with actual pricing coming in closer to $20. Check back regularly for the full announcement with disc specs and high-res cover art.
