Blu-ray Finds a ‘Golden Compass’ in April

New Line Home Entertainment will release The Golden Compass April 29 on Blu-ray Disc, per an advertisement in the latest issue of Home Media Retailing magazine.

Despite its lackluster box office take, The Golden Compass will be the first high definition disc from New Line to be given a red carpet Platinum Series release spread across two discs. The Blu-ray version will include all the special features found on the two-disc standard DVD version, as well as a Blu-ray exclusive enhanced visual commentary.

Special features will total approximately 2 and a half hours and include an Origins documentary, behind-the-scenes footage, and a Lyra’s World featurette.

Technical specs and high resolution cover art should be forthcoming shortly, but it’s a safe bet to assume 7.1 DTS-HD Master Lossless audio and a pristine 1080p transfer.

The Golden Compass (Platinum Series) two-disc Blu-ray Disc will carry an MSRP of $39.98. Per New Line’s recent decision to go Blu-ray exclusive following their distribution partner Warner Home Video’s lead, The Golden Compass will not be available on HD DVD.
