Blu-ray Catches ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ in April

UPDATED: Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced Alvin and the Chipmunks will be released April 1 on Blu-ray, day-and-date with the standard DVD.

Like Fox’s Hitman before it, Alvin and the Chipmunks will include a standard definition digital copy of the film that can be put on a PC or portable device for viewing. The digital copy will be housed on a second separate disc.

Standard definition digital copies included with Blu-ray Disc titles appears to be a steady trend Fox has adopted. This leads us to believe most, if not all future new theatrical Blu-ray releases will include a digital copy.

With Alvin and the Chipmunks on Blu-ray, you can expect an SRP of $39.98 and the followiing special features: “Chip-Chip-Hurray!” and “Hitting the Harmony” featurettes; Witch Doctor music video; two exclusive iTunes music downloads: Get Munk’d (DeeTown Remix) and Get You Goin’ (DeeTown Funk Remix); and an Inside Look at Horton Hears a Who.

The high definition Blu-ray presentation will consist of an AVC (MPEG-4) encoded transfer and 5.1 DTS HD Lossless Master Audio.

Keep your eyes peeled for high resolution cover art in the days ahead.
