Earlier today, Activision revealed the worst kept secret in gaming after Target did the same yesterday: this fall’s Call of Duty game will in fact be a sequel to 2010’s mega-popular Black Ops.
Originally, the Black Ops 2 reveal was to happen later tonight during the NBA playoffs, but someone at Activision jumped the gun and the UK’s Call of Duty website went live with information about the game. Tonight’s scheduled reveal will include footage, presumably, which has been kept under wraps (the trailer on the website is locked).
Another startling revelation made today is that Black Ops 2 will jump ahead to take place far in the future. According to the website, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare.” Will Black Ops 2 serve as a bridge to the next Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer game, which is rumored to take place in space?
The accidental reveal only confirmed a rumor. There are still plenty of questions about Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and the franchise as whole, that will hopefully be answered in the coming weeks.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, will be in stores on November 13, 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC.
