Yesterday director Zack Snyder teased the world with an image of his new Batmobile covered by a tarp. The tweet tease promised a full reveal would come today, and come it did, with the added bonus of our first look — official or otherwise — of Ben Affleck as Batman.
The image was snapped by Synder himself and posted to Twitter, utilizing a Leica M Monochrom camera. The result is a stunning black-and-white photograph of a menacing Ben Affleck as Batman standing in front of his Batmobile.
The Batmobile, as suggested by yesterday’s teaser, looks like the child of Tim Burton’s artistic vision for Batman’s ride and Christopher Nolan’s militaristic take on the infamous vehicle. Rocksteady’s recent reveal of their take on the Batmobile in the upcoming Batman Arkham Knight video game also follows this design route.
As for Batman, the design borrows heavily from Frank Miller’s take on the Dark Knight as seen in The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. Gone is the military armor employed by Christopher Nolan and instead is a large bat symbol and more minimalistic design on top of a severely bulked up Bruce Wayne. Though the photo is in black-and-white, the odds are high that the cowl/cape combination will be either black or blue; the suit will be a shade of grey, and the gloves/boots either a black or blue. It’s clearly Affleck in the suit with his signature dimpled chin on display.
Now that the Batfleck is out of the bag, we will anxiously await the first official photo of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. This reveal also might portend that the new Batmobile will soon be taking to the streets of Detroit for shooting, thus Warner Bros. and Snyder wanted to get the jump on the paparazzi.
