BBC Home Video has announced the first season of the television show Torchwood is coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 16. This announcement comes on the heels of BBC announcing Robin Hood: Season One’s Blu-ray debut for July, furthering BBC’s commitment to releasing its top tier television programming on Blu-ray.
Torchwood: Season One is being released day-and-date with the second season’s arrival on DVD. This is a departure from typical studio practices of introducing the current season on Blu-ray in-line with where DVD is at rather than backtracking to the first.
Torchwood will be presented in its original 16:9 aspect ratio in 1080p video with 5.1 DTS audio.
BBC is offering extensive supplemental features spread across all six discs in the set. Exclusive to Blu-ray is a “set-up” guide, though what this entails remains to be seen. The full list of extras is as follows.
- Blu-ray set-up guide

- Torchwood Declassified: Blast from the Past, To the End
