Original article: James Cameron’s Avatar starring Sam Worthington will finally makes its standalone Blu-ray 3D debut in North America on October 16 via Fox Home Entertainment.
Avatar was originally released on Blu-ray 3D in fall 2010 as an exclusive pack-in with Panasonic Plasma 3D HDTVs. The only other way to obtain the disc was via the secondary market where prices began well north of $100 each, but have settled in between $50 and $100.
The retail Blu-ray 3D version of Avatar will be a two-disc release in new packaging. The second disc will include the DVD version of the film as well as a digital copy.
Those owning the Avatar: Extended Edition will want to hold on to that release as the new Blu-ray 3D version is strictly the theatrical cut. The longer extended cut remains exclusive to the Extended Edition.
Pricing and pre-order information for Avatar on Blu-ray 3D will be added at a later date (pre-order information is now available).
