Netflix has released the first footage from the hotly anticipated return of Arrested Development next month. If you think double dipping chips is gross then this might just take the cake.
In the clip, Lucille (Jessica Walter) exercises her motherly influences over poor Buster (Tony Hale). Here’s the setup: Lucille has a house arrest device on that will not allow her to go onto the balcony. She needs her smokes, though, and that’s where Buster comes in.
Rather than exhale the smoke into a bag or something, Lucille makes Buster open wide and inhale her second-hand smoke. Buster must then walk to the balcony, blow it out, and return to mama for the next round.
I encourage you to watch this clip and imagine Walter and Hale having to perform this scene in multiple takes. That’s not CGI smoke transferring from actress to actor.
All fifteen new episodes of Arrested Development are coming to Netflix on May 26. Demand is so high for the new season that I would not be surprised if Netflix servers sustained major delays – if not total crashes – when the episodes first go live.
