Update: Sony has clarified the difference between the theatrical and extended cuts. Both the two-disc DVD and Blu-ray editions will include an identical extended cut running 146 minutes. The theatrical cut runs 138 minutes. Both cuts will be available on the Blu-ray version.
Robert Langdon’s adventures will continue on November 24 with the release of Angels & Demons starring Tom Hanks on Blu-ray Disc and DVD.
The Blu-ray edition will include a 285 (which *could* be a Sony typo for 185) minute extended edition exclusive to the format as well as the theatrical cut. DVD will also include a new cut but it will be substantially shorter at 146 minutes.
In what appears to be a Sony first, Angels & Demons will feature 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio in favor of Dolby TrueHD typically used on Sony Blu-ray titles including The Da Vinci Code. We’ll keep a close eye on other upcoming Sony titles to see if the move to DTS-HD is a one-off or a permanent move.
Bonus features will include a handful of Blu-ray exclusives in addition to the added footage.
