Alex Pettyfer Confirms Meeting with The Hunger Games Movie Producers

Alex Pettyfer has managed to keep his name mostly out of The Hunger Games movie casting gossip that has instead focused on the female lead of Katniss Everdeen. The up-and-coming star of I Am Number Four and Beastly can now be added in the mix.

Access Hollywood managed to get Pettyfer to address a possible role in The Hunger Games movie when they caught him on the red carpet at the Beastly premiere in Los Angeles. He confirmed that he’s met with producers and is undecided about the role as he awaits a script.

You’d think Pettyfer had already reached Johnny Depp status with the way he answers these inquiries. Rather than saying he’s in the running, he makes it sound like he’ll decide whether he wants to play the male lead of Peeta Mellark if the script is to his liking. None of the young actresses in the running for Katniss like Hailee Steinfeld or Jennifer Lawrence shamelessly promote themselves as in the driver’s seat like this.

Lionsgate has set a March 23, 2012 release date for The Hunger Games movie based on the first book in Suzanne Collins’ three-book series. Director Gary Ross and his team have yet to announced a single member of the cast despite rapidly approaching the one-year mark until release.

Whoever is cast as Katniss and the other leads could be looking at a huge career boost. The Hunger Games is poised to be the next young adult phenomenon at the box office after the success Summit Entertainment found with Twilight and its leads Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
