Adrianne Palicki is the new Wonder Woman as officially announced by Warner Bros. via a press release last night. She’ll be the first actress to play the live-action part since Lynda Carter in the 1970s.
Palicki is best known for her role as Tyra Collette in NBC’s ‘Fright Night Lights.’ She also will start in MGM’s temporarily shelved Red Dawn remake as Toni. Other past credits include a stint in the short-lived series ‘Lone Star,’ a role in the film Legion, and a series of cameos in the show ‘Supernatural.’
David E. Kelley of ‘Boston Legal’ and ‘Ally McBeal’ fame penned the ‘Wonder Woman’ pilot that is based on the DC Comics title of the same name. In Kelley’s version set in the present, Wonder Woman fights crime by night but is a corporate executive Diana Prince by day. She’ll struggle to balance these two lives amongst the usual pressures that come with being a modern woman.
The pilot will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner who has worked on NBC’s current sci-fi mystery series ‘The Event.’ Assuming Wonder Woman gets picked up, it could debut on the small screen as early as this fall.
The big question now is how will Wonder Woman be suited up when fighting Crime in Los Angeles? Unless she’s planning on hanging out in front of Mann’s Chinese Theater then the iconic bikini costume probably isn’t going to cut it.
