Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will embark on a new Blu-ray packaging initiative in July that borrows heavily from Warner’s Digibook treatment given to select catalog titles.
Like Digibook, Sony will include a 30-40 page book with select catalog titles housed within a hard outer case package resembling a book itself. The first two titles to feature this new packaging have been on the Blu-ray backburner for some time: Midnight Express on July 21 and just-announced A River Runs Through It on July 28.
The latter will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio and include a 32-page book with photos, talent files and three pages of the Oscar-nominated screenplay. Click here to read the Midnight Express announcement.
New bonus features have been produced specifically for A River Runs Through It including a Blu-ray exclusive as outlined below:
- 32-Page Book
- Never Before-Released Deleted Scenes
- All-New Featurette: Casting a Line: The Beginner’s Guide to Fly Fishing
- All-New Featurette: The Blackfoot Challenge: Rescuing a River
- All-New Featurette: Deep Currents: Making a River Runs Through It
- On The Blackfoot River Hi-Def Looping Screen Savers (BD exclusive)
Hosted by master fly fisherman Brandon Boedecker, this segment takes us step by step through the process of fly fishing.
The compelling true story of the destruction of Montana’s Blackfoot River, and how a committed group of volunteers (assisted by Robert Redford and the film crew) helped generate enough money to restore this natural treasure.
In an in-depth exploration of the movie’s creation, Redford talks about his long and challenging journey to turn Norman Maclean’s evocative book into a transcendent piece of cinema.
Retail pricing for Midnight Express and A River Runs Through It has been set at $38.96. Both are available for pre-order at Amazon.com for $30.49.
