The original 1933 RKO King Kong in its entirety will scale Blu-ray on September 28 as Warner Bros. continues to lead the charge in releasing classic films on high-def home video. The film will also be available via VOD, iTunes and gaming consoles (presumably Xbox 360 and PS3).
King Kong on Blu-ray will be packaged in a book case with the book portion spanning 32 pages of pictures and trivia from film historian Rudy Behlmer.
On the disc will be a documentary on Kong creator Merian C. Cooper that is directed by filmmakers Kevin Brownlow and Christopher Bird; a commentary track with Ray Harryhausen and visual effects artist Ken Ralston, with archival sound bites from Merian C. Copper and Fay Wray; a seven-part making-of documentary; and multiple theatrical trailers.
I’ll check back with high-res cover art and Amazon’s pre-order link when they are released.
