Steve McQueen’s powerful film 12 Years a Slave will make its Blu-ray and DVD debut on a release date of March 14. If you want to watch 12 Years a Slave online streaming before that then you’re in luck, as Fox will make the film available via Digital HD a full two weeks earlier on February 18.
12 Years a Slave is considered the frontrunner to take home the Oscar for Best Motion Picture at the Academy Awards. It already won Best Picture – Drama at the Golden Globes, and is up for a total of nine Academy Awards including Best Actor for star Chiwetel Ejiofor. The film also stars Michael Fassbender, Lupita Nyong, Alfre Woodard, Brad Pitt, Paul Dano, Benedict Cumberbatch and Paul Giamatti. The film is scored by Hans Zimmer.
Fox is bringing 12 Years a Slave to Blu-ray in 2.4:1 1080p high definition video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Bonus features fall onto the sparse side with the first of three being exclusive to Blu-ray:
