‘Wonder Woman’ Accolades: $800 Million Reached, Blu-ray Dominating Amazon Pre-Orders

Warner Bros., director Patty Jenkins and everyone involved with the creation and distribution of Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot can pop yet another bottle of bubbly to celebrate this past weekend.

Domestic and international ticket sales from Friday through Sunday have pushed Wonder Woman past $800 million at the worldwide box office. The breakdown is $404 million earned domestically with roughly $396 million tallied overseas. That’s about as balanced a line for a near $1 billion dollar film as you’ll ever see.

With those earnings, Wonder Woman is now the top grossing superhero origin story of them all. Yes, that includes the original Iron Man and all other DC and Marvel films.

Such strong demand for Wonder Woman is already translating to home video where Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray pre-orders are on fire.

As of the time of this article, the Wonder Woman Blu-ray combo pack sits in first place on Amazon’s Blu-ray bestsellers chart. The Wonder Woman Blu-ray 3D combo pack is in third place, while the Wonder Woman 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is in sixth place. That’s half of Amazon’s top six going to one movie.

Those rankings will change on Tuesday when Amazon finally begins selling Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on Blu-ray and 4K. Until then, Wonder Woman is second to none.
