The Revenant Trailer Pits Grizzly Leonardo DiCaprio Against Tom Hardy

It’s that time of year when films vying for the Academy Awards early next year are commencing their marketing campaign blitzes for the fall. One film that looks like a lock to contend in multiple categories is The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter.

I’m basing my Academy Award prediction solely off of The Revenant trailer. An amazing first look aside, The Revenant will get extra attention not only from its star power, but also it’s co-writer and director, none other than Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Inarritu (Birdman, Babel).

The Revenant is based in part on the novel by Michael Punke that is based on the adventures of legendary explorer Hugh Glass. Here’s the official synopsis for the film from Twentieth Century Fox and New Regency, followed by the gritty trailer.

Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.

The Revenent will open in limited released on December 25, followed by a wide release in January 2016.
