‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Poster Now, Trailer During Super Bowl (Updated)

CBS Films has released the first poster for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the movie adaptation of author Alvin Schwartz’s three-part kids horror book series released between 1981 and 1991.

The first Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark trailer will premiere during the Super Bowl this Sunday and pop up online shortly thereafter.


The story concept for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was developed by Guillermo del Toro with Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman writing the screenplay. The Hageman brothers and del Toro previously collaborated on the Netflix adaptation of Trollhunters.

André Øvredal (Trollhunter) directed Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with a cast featuring Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur and Natalie Ganzhorn.

Book readers might recognize the freakish scarecrow in the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark teaser poster below. His name is Harold and he was featured in book 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will be released theatrically this August.
