Believe it or not there are still many casual moviegoers out there that believe Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Can you blame them? Someone who doesn’t obsess over movies sees another new Star Wars film being advertised with a British-accented female heroine (Felicity Jones). They aren’t looking beyond that into the details about the Death Star or reappearance of Darth Vader.
This potential disconnect with some audiences is apparent enough to Lucasfilm and Disney that they’ve addressed it in a new Star Wars: Rogue One featurette. Director Gareth Edwards explicitly connects the dots between Rogue One and Star Wars: A New Hope, complete with the illustrated example of highlighting the relevant keywords in the A New Hope opening crawl.
Anyone who has known about the connection since the project is announced will find some excellent new behind-the-scenes and in-movie footage including fantastic shots of the Rebellion’s battle against Imperial walkers on a tropical landscape. There’s quite a few new looks and shots to drool over and replay ad nauseam.
Star Wars: Rogue One makes its debut in theaters a month from yesterday on December 16th.
